2023 at The Conduit - Health and Wellbeing
The Conduit
A home for a diverse community to connect, grow, and make a positive impact.
For the third part of this series (the last for this week), we’re exploring the solutions to issues around healthcare and wellbeing that have been platformed this year at The Conduit.?
For this event, we were joined by psychologist Thomas Curran , who is based at 英国伦敦政治经济学院 , and specialises in the study of perfectionism. He talked us through the dimensions of perfectionism, exploring how, despite a marked growth in perfectionism across society, it is not healthy or adaptive. To overcome our current shared fixation with perfection, and resulting mental distress, he argues that a collective change is needed. This involves re-evaluating shared priorities, reducing inequality and promoting personal wellbeing over economic growth.?
For this talk, we were joined by:?
Phoebe Tickell – Scientist, systems thinker and social activist. Creator of Imagination Activism, and founder of not-for-profit organisation, Moral Imaginations .?
Joanna Brown – Director of People and Inclusion at Camden Council, and convenor of Camden Imagines.?
Jon Alexander – Author of Citzens: Why the Key to Fixing Everything is All of Us, advocate for civic growth and innovation.?
The panel discussed the concept of “imagination activism”, which calls for an expanded view of human potential, encouraging innovative solutions to global problems and what this means in practice through current work in Camden, and how this could transform civil society. ?

They discussed the importance of using technology to monitor patients with chronic conditions and identify those who may be deteriorating while waiting for treatment. The panelists explored the use of AI and large language models in the initial screening of data to help human doctors direct their efforts to the most needy patients. The video also explores the potential of technology in healthcare, specifically in terms of surgery and patient education. Remote care allows for more surgeons to monitor multiple patients at once and for patients to receive a more personalized experience. The use of technology can also help identify and prioritize patients according to their needs, preventing potential harm.??
