"Chicago is a dynamic city for energy storage innovation, robust R&D culture, and dedicated workforce," celebrates Desmond Wheatly, CEO of Beam. "Embracing these strengths, Beam is strategically expanding its manufacturing presence in the Chicagoland region, delivering premium-grade batteries tailored for diverse applications such as eMobility, recreation, and robotics. With Chicago's foundation of innovation and hard work, we're poised to drive transformative advancements in energy technology."
Expanding a business into the United States requires careful selection, considering factors like tech ecosystem, affordability, and cultural diversity, as seen in HyperSense Software's choice of Chicago. Understanding local market dynamics through comprehensive research and leveraging local expertise are crucial for successful expansion strategies. Prioritizing compliance with regulations, establishing a transparent presence, and adapting to cultural nuances are essential steps for gaining trust and acceptance in the new market while anticipating and addressing potential challenges.
In 2023, the Chicago metro area continued its dominance by surpassing all other regions in the nation in terms of new corporate locations and expansions. World Business Chicago reported a total of 163 "pro-Chicagoland decisions" throughout the year, consisting of 117 expansions and 46 relocations or new market entries. Notable investments were directed towards the South and West sides of the city, as well as significant developments throughout the Chicagoland region. These initiatives collectively led to the creation of over 23,000 job opportunities, further bolstering the city's economic prosperity.
Based on recent site selection news, it's evident that Chicagoans are deeply proud of their city. According to a recent Harris Poll survey, an overwhelming 85% of city residents express pride in being Chicagoans. This sentiment is deeply rooted in the city’s rich history and vibrant culture, which has flourished since its founding in 1837. Chicago has evolved into a dynamic hub of art, music, dining, and entertainment, capturing the hearts of its residents.?
The local cultural quirks of the greater Chicagoland area, such as its unique hot dog style and distinctive slang, are cherished by nine in 10 (85%) city residents. These quirks contribute to what makes Chicago truly special and set it apart from other major U.S. metropolitan areas.
Moreover, a significant majority of city residents—four in five (80%)—believe that the greater Chicagoland area offers more than other major U.S. cities. This perception is well-founded, considering the remarkable offerings of the Windy City. From world-class museums like the Art Institute of Chicago, boasting one of the largest collections of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings outside of Paris, to the presence of teams from all five major professional sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and MLS, Chicago has something for everyone.
?Notably, the Chicago Park District stands as the largest municipal park manager in the country, overseeing 28 miles of lakefront and 24 beaches. This abundance of green space adds to the city's allure, providing residents and visitors alike with ample opportunities for outdoor recreation and relaxation.
In summary, Chicago's recent site selection news underscores the city's exceptional appeal and the unwavering pride of its residents. With its rich cultural heritage, diverse offerings, and unparalleled amenities, Chicago continues to stand out as a premier destination for both business and leisure.
