2023 Business Analytics WBA Intern Experience

2023 Business Analytics WBA Intern Experience

Walgreens Boots and Alliance, commonly known as Walgreens, is a prominent American pharmacy retail chain and healthcare company that serves over 2.5 million customers daily. Now partnering with Boots and Alliance, the WBA is doing in the corner of the USA and Europe. Walgreens has filled over 1.2 billion prescriptions in the fiscal year of 2022. They are also expanding by providing more than 86,000 healthcare service providers and other health-related professionals. As a Walgreens employee, I support the company's vision of creating a “better world through health and wellness.”

After four interviews with different managers and HR people, I was asked to participate in the Walgreens Support Center internship program as a Summer Business Analyst on Thanksgiving week. As my mother and childhood friends also work at Walgreens, I could not contain my excitement when I got the call on my way to a mission trip for my school organization. My primary role for this internship was to gather data from various business functions while being able to create suggestions and show my analysis through data visualization applications.

When I first met my intern class, manager, department, and mentor, I was surprised to see the hospitality and kindness surrounding the work environment. I was pushed to reach out to different interns and stakeholders to learn from their work experiences and gain advice on developing as an employee and a person. In this process, I found people who connected me to other company departments ranging from Rx, retail, and Microfufillment. It was fulfilling for people to ask about my work/school experience and how I am doing personally and be flexible with my time when needed.

One of the projects that I had to work on throughout the summer was my group innovation project for Walgreens. This project aimed to create an innovative idea for Walgreens to improve their business and customer experience. Our group decided to look into incentivizing customers with rewards to use reusable bags at Walgreens. To make this idea marketable, my group looked at research and data to see how it could be financially feasible and environmentally sustainable for the company and the customers. Using the data gathered in this research, I used Power BI and other data visualization tools to show my analysis of how environmentally sustainable the use of reusable bags can be for the company. We also looked into sample data of the rewards systems and analyzed them to see if our project was financially feasible. This project helped me learn about the functionality of Walgreens and how much a big business being environmentally sustainable can influence society to do the same.

Overall, the internship experience was unique and fulfilling. Meeting people passionate about the job and the growth and development of others has been fulfilling and set new expectations for a healthy work environment. This summer was special, with challenging projects and a loving group of interns.?
