One of my goals for the new year is to read 11 books. Only 11 books? Yes, 11 books and not 12. I plan to start in February and read a new book each month. I wanted to share how I plan to accomplish this goal and some books that are currently on my reading list.
- Creating a goal. My goal is 11 books this year. I am a binge-reader (almost in the way people are binge-TV watchers). When I start a book, I love to spend a few hours immersed in the book and then continue to read for at least an hour a day until I’m finished. When you are setting your goal, it’s important to consider both the number of books as well as the time you can reasonably dedicate to finishing the book.
- Visiting the library more. I want to encourage you to save money in this new year as well. The library has a plethora of books, eBooks, and audiobooks that you can check out for free. When I was younger, my parents encouraged us to spend a lot of time in the library. I now understand why and the library is so much better than when I was a kid. I highly encourage you to renew your library card as a resource to help you accomplish your reading goal.
- Tracking progress. There are several apps that you can use to track your reading progress. One of my favorite apps is
The StoryGraph
. It’s a free app to download. It allows you to add your reading goals, track your reading progress, and rate and review the books you’ve read thus far. It also offers personalized recommendations based on your reading habits.
Some of the books that I plan to read this year are:
- Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones by
James Clear
- Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance by
Angela Duckworth
- More than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are by
Elaine Welteroth
- Professional Troublemaker by
Luvvie Ajayi Jones
- The 12 Week Year – Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in a Year by
Brian Moran
and
Michael Lennington
I'm excited to start reading more by utilizing the free resources from the library and tracking my progress. I strongly believe now is the perfect time to set a reading goal and develop new reading habits. Reading is one of the best ways to expand your horizons and learn more about the world. It’s also such a great way to develop personally and professionally. Please share in the comments some of the books you are planning to read this year!?
I am a binge-reader as well, but never thought of using an app to make/track goals. Thanks for the tip!

1 年Perfect timing! I set a reading goal this year in hopes of binge watching less TV! I usually lean towards self-help books, but plan to spend the year exploring different genres. ?? I read Atomic Habits at the end of 2022 and highly recommend it. Thanks for sharing!
