2023 - 2024, A challenging, but fruitful year.
The past academic year had MANY more challenges than anyone could have imagined. Every month seemed to contain SOME sort of challenge attached to a performance, competition, festival or concert...but in the end, the year was successful. For me, this was the completion of my 8th year at Tokay High School and my 48th year in education. I was truly blessed this past year, meeting so many wonderful, helpful caring people to support the program.
The fall marching season had us UNDEFEATED as we placed 1st in every competition we entered. There were the usual football games and local events that kept everyone on the alert and even the local annual holiday lights parade kept us busy into December. Our holiday concert was successful with a nostalgic piece featuring the jazz music of Vince Guaraldi which was arranged for orchestra.
A wonderful highlight was both the band and orchestra going to concert festivals. Both groups showed improvement in their performances during the spring with the band always scoring in the 90's for concert competitions. The band became a strong concert-based unit. The orchestra matured in this past year and was able to perform many different genres of music for competitions and concerts. The heartwarming farewell piece was "Remember Me" from the movie "Coco", which turned out to be an audience favorite conveying the message of farewell from the Class of 2024.
On to career year number 49!
