Is 2022 your year?

Happy New Year and welcome back to the weekly reads. The entire Rwazi community is thrilled to have you here. We know that energies are running high, and just about everyone is setting their goals. If this is not you, worry not. We have some tips to usher in the New Year. In today’s article, we will discuss some of the most effective tips on setting goals and settling into the new year. We will also tackle the anxiety that comes with a new year, and how you can manage that.?

It feels like it was 2019 just a couple of months ago and now 2022 is upon us. We empathize with everyone that has lost in one way or another to the effects of the pandemic. We were all thrown off balance. Suddenly, the plans we had could not be executed, and we were forced to adjust and adapt; fast. It’s no wonder that some of us are feeling anxious about setting goals. What will work? What will be disrupted? How soon can we expect things to go back to normal? What does normal look like? If this is you, we have just the tips to help you out.?

Relinquish control with wisdom.?

Let go of the idea that everything must go according to plan. The things on your planner and vision boards will change. Some people will cancel, and business won’t go exactly as planned. We know it's all neat and tidy in your calendar but where is the room for life? Life happens and it happens fast. Please make plans, and divorce yourself from the idea that things will go exactly like that. When you do that, you allow yourself and others the grace to change. This should relieve you of so much heartache from things not going exactly as planned.?

Reflection is key.?

You’ve heard it said that history often repeats itself. This is true for where systems do not change. If you bought five planners and barely wrote on them last year, please consider not doing the same in 2022. If you subscribed to the gym and never went, you may want to take a beat before doing so this January. There is a reason things didn’t work out last year. There are certain traits and characters within you that cannot allow you the discipline to see things through. You have to reflect on your actions, take responsibility, and shift gears appropriately if things are going to change in 2022. Reflection allows you to plan better, and act with more wisdom.?

Progression over perfection.?

There are people who will decide to wake up at 4 am tomorrow and do it. They aren’t many, and you’re probably not one of them. There are no miracles that occur at night in your journal. You have to take the steps to achieve your gargantuan goals. If the goal is to read 40 pages a day, start with 5. If you want to get in the best shape of your life, start with taking a walk around the neighborhood. The reason we are in so much panic is that we want to shock our bodies and minds into explosive productivity. Start small, and learn the fundamentals of the habit you want to practice. It will earn you a lot of peace and self-compassion.?

Practice kindness

You are deserving of kindness just as you are. We know you haven't mastered the skill yet. You’re still staying up well past your bedtime, and getting up late. There are many things that you want to change, and the perfect images in the media don’t make it any better. Be kind to yourself in these moments. Do not be hateful in your self-talk, and do not put your body through gruesome things for quick results. There is no time when you are undeserving of respect and kindness. As we go through the year, we are all bound to slip up, and in those moments choose kindness over agony.
