2022: The Year Mylance Needed

2022: The Year Mylance Needed

When I started Mylance in 2020, I thought we'd grow, and I thought we'd grow fast. Doesn't every ambitious business owner start thinking that?

Well we grew, but it wasn't fast. The first two years of the business were slow and I knew we needed a catalyst, and we needed it soon. Well, we got it. Our third year in business was a huge year of much needed growth, backed by our Accelerator program and our Tax Business.

With that said, I know we can't repeat what we did in 2022 to continue our growth into 2023. 2023 needs to be the year of recurring, repeatable, scalable growth, with the goal to hit $1M in cumulative revenue.

With that said, let’s take a quick look back at what we accomplished, and where we’re headed in 2023:

Top 3 things we accomplished

  1. Revenue growth. A business’s job is to make money, and we proved we could monetize in 2023. We grew revenue from $56k last year to $374k this year (+566% YoY) while helping hundreds of professionals launch and grow their independent consulting businesses.

2. HQ Growth: at the end of 2021, we had 170 onboarded HQs. Today we sit at a cumulative of 1,029 onboarded HQs, giving us a large database of talented consultants to whom we can add value.

3. Focused Marketing: we focused our marketing efforts and it worked. Our website received 24,994 new user visits and 160,996 page views in 2022. We grew our email list from 1,242 to 3,371, and my personal LinkedIn (a large source of our marketing) received over 2 million impressions in 2022. We also got a placement in Fortune!

Top things we’re looking forward to in 2023

  1. Focus. I’ve been preaching it, now we’re acting on it. We’re going to remove any and all distractions and focus entirely on helping our customers find their next consulting lead in 2023. We already have paying customers and tons of user research pointing us in this direction. I’m very excited to put all my energy into one kickass product in 2023.
  2. Recurring revenue. The Accelerator drove the majority of our revenue in 2022, which was difficult and stressful given it was a one-time charge. Now, we’re focused on building up recurring revenue in more of a community-led SaaS model. There will be a free tier, Mylance Pro, which will give access to the community and our resources, and Mylance Scale, which will be our lead gen engine.
  3. Simplicity. We don’t need 10 different things to work. To hit $1M in 2023, we need simplicity. We need one lucrative marketing channel. We need one amazing product. We need a small, lean, agile team. We’re taking the “less is more” approach in 2023. After that, we can expand. But for now, we need to do less, nail this product for our target customer, and get it 100% right.?

Thank you for your support over the years. Building this company has been anything but easy, but it’s been incredibly rewarding and I look forward to a very successful future. I have tons of energy for this and will work tirelessly to make it a long-term success.

Wishing you a very happy holiday season and a Happy New Year!

All my best,
