Have you ever had a great idea and wanted to share it with everyone you knew? Maybe it was a topic you were passionate about, but you just weren’t sure how to write it out. After all, it’s not like you’re going to just sit down and write a book, right??
Actually, yes! With my writing roadmap, that’s exactly what you’re going to do. Once you’ve identified the perfect topic for your masterpiece, it’s time to get writing!?
Mapping out your book starts with choosing a launch date and marking it on your calendar. Set your launch date six to eight months out from the time you begin writing to give yourself plenty of time to kick your creative process into high gear.?
Once you’ve got a launch date, go ahead and add an element of accountability into the mix, too. Whether it’s a graphic designer, cover artist, or editor, you’ll want someone to hold you to that launch date when the time comes.?
Next, identify the number of chapters in your book. Say you’ve got eight chapters, and you know you’ve got eight months to write them in. Now you can break up your timeline into a chapter each month to evenly space out your writing time. Plotting out the number of chapters takes the monumental idea of writing a book and turns it into something easily achievable. You might be wary of cranking out a whole book, but you can definitely handle writing one piece of content each month.?

The 3 Week Cycle
Here’s where the magic comes in. Now that you know the number of chapters, you’re going to give each chapter a three-week writing cycle. Sitting down and writing 90 pages sounds painfully boring, but breaking that workload into blog-sized bites can keep the creative spark alive and allow you to stick to your calendar.
Once you’ve completed the three-week cycle with the first chapter, it’s time to take a well-earned break. Giving your brain some time to rest is vital for long term success.? not to mention it’s just nice to relax every once in a while. I mean, you’re writing a book for goodness sake! That’s amazing! Take time after each writing cycle to celebrate that accomplishment before diving into the next month’s work.?
Before you know it, eight months will fly by and you’ll be handing over the final chapters to your editor and welcoming your book launch with open arms. Holding your finished work in your hands is an incredible feeling, and getting to that point is made easier when you map it out and hold yourself to the three-week cycle routine. I hope you use this process to dig into the new year’s projects with passion and focus, my friends!?
