2022 Wrapped

2022 Wrapped

As 2022 comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to recap the incredible year we had at Anduril. We sent the below note to our Anduril team today.

To everyone who made this year a success from employees, investors, partners, and beyond, thank you. Wishing everyone a restful and restorative holiday season.

Anduril team -

Anduril was founded five and a half years ago to develop advanced technology to transform US & allied military capability. In order to fulfill that mission we knew we needed to have the scale of a major defense prime, be a defense product company first, privately fund our own innovation and be able to recruit the best and brightest team and talent.

These past five years, we’ve moved faster, developed more products, closed more contracts and had more direct impact with service members than we even thought was possible when Anduril was founded. Today, our counter UAS systems are protecting forward positions, Ghost is conducting missions in Ukraine, ALTIUS is flying into the eye of category five hurricanes, our Dive-LD autonomous subs are exploring the depths of the Pacific and Lattice is being used with every branch of the US military and many of our allies and partners. There is no greater validation for our approach than achieving results like these and earning the trust of our customers.

We have a long way to go, but as we said last year, we are in this for the long haul. None of this could have been achieved without your dedication and hard work. And while we know that none of you signed on because you thought this would be an easy job, we are nonetheless profoundly grateful for the sacrifices you have made, the work you have put in, and the advancements you have had a hand in delivering. We hope you all have a restful and restorative break and see you in the new year.

We wanted to put together a snapshot of what we’ve been able to achieve together this year. We know this represents only a fraction of the things we’ve all built together this year, but we hope this snapshot gives you and your loved ones a glance at the incredible impact of Anduril's work.

2022 Highlights

While we would love to call out every single project and every single contributor, any list such as this will necessarily miss countless achievements worth celebrating. Here are a few of the things we achieved together as a company this year that we’ve shared publicly:

Rebooting the Arsenal of Democracy

This year we launched our mission document asking engineers, government leaders, and citizens to help us to rebuild the arsenal of democracy and make the future safe, prosperous and free.

New people and places:

We had a tremendous year of growth both in space and people! We welcomed over 500 new Andurilians across offices. We hosted our largest intern class. We moved into our new Headquarters in Costa Mesa. We expanded our international work with the opening of our Australian office and R&D facility in Sydney. We moved into new offices in London, Seattle, and Mountain View and made major updates to our D.C. office. We expanded our testing operations into Nevada out of the historic Nevada National Security Site.

In February, we acquired Dive Technologies and welcomed the Dive team to Anduril. This acquisition expanded upon our suite of autonomous systems, extending our unmanned capabilities to the undersea domain.

New products:

We iterated and approved upon many of our existing products and added a whole series of new projects to our R&D pipeline. Here are a few products we launched this year — with a lot more products in development for 2023:

We launched Menace, a first-of-its-kind integrated, expeditionary, secure, command, control, communications and computing (C4) platform. Menace gives warfighters the ability to rapidly plan and execute missions at geographically dispersed and austere locations.

With the ALTIUS 600M and 700M, we entered the loitering munition space. Both are designed for expeditionary deployment by air, mobile, ground, or maritime forces.

Mobile Sentry is a ruggedized, mobile platform that uses artificial intelligence for highly accurate, persistent autonomous ground or air awareness, anywhere

New partners:

We formed several new partnerships this year. While we can’t list them all here due to customer sensitivities, here are a few that we are able to showcase:

  • U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM): One our our proudest achievements this year was being named the Systems Integration Partner (SIP) for SOCOM's program for countering unmanned systems. This partnership provides USSOCOM the necessary tools to keep pace with the small drone threat and deliver advanced CUAS capabilities to globally deployed SOF.
  • American Rheinmetall Vehicles: We entered into a partnership with American Rheinmetall Vehicles to support “Team Lynx” with customized command and control software for the Lynx Optionally-Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV).
  • Palantir Technologies: We expanded our relationship with Palantir in phase two of the Army’s Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node (TITAN) prototype. This includes development of a full working prototype vehicle with the refinement of system level designs and requirements via soldier touchpoints, as well as operational tests, evaluations and exercises.

Demonstrations and events:

Demonstrations, exercises, and other events with government and industry partners are often the best way we have to show off our capabilities. Below are some highlights we can share:

  • AEWE: In April, Army units from the United States, United Kingdom, and the Netherlands gathered in Fort Benning, Georgia for the Army Expeditionary Warrior Exercise, a series of force on force exercises aimed at testing and refining tactics for advanced technologies in support of small unit modernization. Our autonomous small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) Ghost showed how software-defined UAS can enhance the lethality and effectiveness of small units.
  • IMX/CE: In February, we joined nearly 9,000 personnel from more than 60 countries and international organizations in Bahrain to participate in International Maritime Exercise/Cutlass Express 2022, the largest maritime exercise in the Middle East. Our Lattice operating system was used in several training scenarios, including those related to surface warfare and search and rescue.
  • EDGE22: In May, ALTIUS Air Launched Effects platform demonstrated first of its kind intelligent teaming during the US Army Project Edge. ALTIUS was key to achieving EDGE 22’s technological goals, including demonstrating its autonomous teaming capabilities as part of the largest ALE swarm to date.
  • IAN: In September, our ALTIUS capabilities took new flight with the partnership with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). ALTIUS was launched from a NOAA Hurricane Hunter plane to collect and transmit atmospheric data back while orbiting around the storm, a task that kept hurricane hunters safe and out of harm’s way.

Company Growth:

We are closing out the year with the announcement of our Series E. The round closed at $1.48 Billion, putting our current post-money valuation at $8.48 Billion solidifying that our model — recruiting talented engineers, building quickly and efficiently using venture dollars, and selling next-generation technology off the shelf to the government — works.

Onward to 2023!?
