Last Newsletter of the year! So we take this opportunity to do a recap of what happened this year and share with you great content to get organised for 2023. And most importantly:
Happy New Year! May this year bring joy and fulfillment to Our People and protect and nurture Our Planet.
COP27 Loss & Damage
Loss and damage made the headlines as one of the significant outcomes of the UN Climate Change conference #COP27. Governments agreed to establish a loss and damage fund, to compensate the countries that are the most vulnerable to climate disasters yet have contributed little to the climate crisis. This is a positive signal that developing countries have been waiting for a long time and help rebuild broken trust.?
COP15 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
Historic outcome at the UN Biodiversity conference #COP15: almost 200 countries have agreed to a new set of goals and targets to protect and restore nature for current and future generations, ensure its sustainable use as well as spur investments for a green global economy. This framework provides a good foundation for global action on biodiversity, complementing the #ParisAgreement for Climate, paving the way towards a climate-neutral, nature-positive and resilient world by 2050.
Patagonia founder giving away his company
The founder of the US outdoor apparel brand decided to give away his company. He transferred the ownership of Patagonia , valued at about $3 billion, to a specially designed trust and a non-profit organisation to preserve the company’s independence and ensure that all of its profits are used to combat climate change and protect undeveloped land around the globe. Yvon Chouinard stated
“I never wanted to become a billionaire”.
A bold statement in the capitalist world we live in. Very inspiring!
EU New Regulations
The European Union has made bold steps towards sustainable development by imposing strong regulations to companies such as:
US Inflation Reduction Act
This is the most significant piece of climate legislation in the history of the United States. It will deploy nearly $400 billion over the coming decade to slash carbon emissions. The Act represents an expansive investment in the energy industry, with many provisions targeting clean energy and climate change issues through funding and tax credits.?
B Corp movement picking up
The B Corp movement is growing worldwide by reaching +5000 certified companies in 2022. Today, the B Corp community spans 79 countries, 154 industries, and over 400,000 workers, all led and coordinated by 13 regional global partner organisations. The growth of the movement has been particularly impressive in Europe since the #Covid19 pandemic.?
