2022 - a rollercoaster where I learned a lot
2022 was not the year many of us were expecting – and it certainly was a rollercoaster. It had lows, it had highs – and a sobering reminder of the importance of safety. But here are three reasons why 2022 stood out for us at bp :
1. Russia’s brutal attack on Ukraine. A business relationship built up over decades fundamentally changed overnight. bp responded by deciding to exit our Rosneft shareholding ?–? which we announced within 96 hours of the invasion ?–? led and supported by our Board. We have also withdrawn businesses such as lubricants and aviation. And we have no intention of returning to business as usual.?
2. Driving bp’s transformation. We began the year by leaning in even harder. We extended our net zero ambition – now across operations, production and sales. And we identified 5 transition growth engines that will play a huge role in bp’s transformation – think hydrogen, EV charging, renewables and the like. We also hit a significant milestone when we flipped the gender balance on our leadership team – with the arrival of Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath to lead gas & low carbon and the promotion of bp’s Leigh-Ann Russell to run innovation & engineering. Two fantastic leaders who will help drive bp’s transformation.
3. Massive strategic progress. There are too many points to list but we’re progressing right across bp. Rolling out our bp pulse network in Australia, transforming how we produce oil and gas in Texas, agreeing to explore the potential of hydrogen in Mauritania and Egypt, agreeing to make a $4 billion investment in US biogas producer Archaea – and all the many, many other achievements our teams have pulled off (check out this great round-up on our website )… 2022 showed the world what becoming an integrated energy company looks like. And there’s so much more to come ??

Above everything, this year made it crystal clear what the world wants and needs from its energy system. Energy that’s not just more sustainable – but also more affordable and more secure.?It wants and needs all three – we call it the energy trilemma.
And it’s our job to help deliver that.?
Massive thanks to the bp team – I always knew you were amazing, but this year really showed it. You rock, all of you.
And I look forward to carrying the conversation on in 2023.

1 年Your correct Bernard, a year of ups and downs. Unfortunately after almost 23 years I have had to resign from BP to find work elsewhere. BP could not find an alternative role for me, Instead told me I had to work back in the North Sea, transiting to work on a helicopter, something which Employee Assistance my Doctor and BP occupational health suggested may not be conducive to my mental well being. However BP advised me they were going to terminate my contract under Medical Capability if I did not take the only role offered! I have delayed in posting any details but feel bitterly disappointed in BP after the way i feel it has conducted itself to a once Loyal employee and the effects it has had on my family. Unfortunately the caring side of bp didn’t support me!
