2022 and the power of purpose-driven companies

This year in October, our Jagaad Academy got us into the biggest international tech conference in the world: Web Summit in Lisbon. While attending the above discussion, we understood the importance of taking action in order to really become a purpose-driven company... but we also realized that were -and still are- going in the right direction. We create this piece with the key takeaways of the panel, plus how we give life to our purpose at Jagaad.

It's a fact. We live in a society that is always expecting more, which directly affects companies. Today, in order for companies to succeed, they need to do more. More than selling, they need to provide and ensure a positive impact -since only by doing so- they can create stable and long-term relationships with their customers.

The purpose became a commodity.

Current consumers -and employees- are demanding purpose more than ever, and seeking to spend their time inside communities where they share interests and true values. Customers AND employees today can either be companies' best friends...or worst enemies... with just one click.

Companies need to take into account the needs of people, from employees to customers, to make them feel part of a group in which they can freely communicate. They can no longer hope to attract talent through communication with passive reception but must propose a common and shared purpose. It seems that only if the purpose is clear, transparent, and properly shared internally, it will be possible to grow businesses tomorrow.

And yes, everybody is talking about purpose lately. It is such a repeated concept. But what does it deeply mean? And how can we have a positive impact and work better together thanks to a purpose?

Having a purpose means going deep into the actions and choices that are made every day by the business: going straight to the heart of the business proposition, and communicating it clearly, effectively, and transparently. The purpose is the "why" of the company, and behind that why are the reasons for a future that, by necessity, we want better. And we help make it better every day. That's why purpose should be the light that guides every business.?

Can companies change the world for the better??

We already have the answer: yes, companies can (and should be forced) to change the world for the better. How can they achieve this? By making themselves attentive listeners, by being able to find those whys, and transforming them into fundamental guidelines to aim for. If companies do not keep up with the speed of this evolving society, it will be increasingly difficult to attract new talent and reach their target audience.

Changing the world for the better, then, is not about selling a dream, but planting a real seed and watering it every day. That seed is the purpose. Companies that are purpose-driven will succeed in tomorrow's market because purpose is what will enable corporations worldwide to connect to a deeper level with their audience, employees, and their why's.

At Jagaad, what moves us beyond is the trust in the quality of our team, and of the people behind the technology we develop. We try our best to keep it authentic and push purpose on daily activities, such as online coffee breaks and meet-ups to stay connected emotionally and virtually, sharing tech know-how as an ongoing practice, but always putting people before technology and code. Our horizontal culture makes it easy to exchange information, communicate, work together, and measure the impact of our purpose, in order to make it tangible. If you can’t measure progress, then your intention rapidly becomes words, and words do not generate any meaningful change if they are not transformed into measurable actions.

At our company, we don't just strive for success, but for excellence, by putting our employees first in everything we do, and creating a workplace where people feel like they truly belong. We have a shared vision that we strive to carry forward every day, within teams building connections around shared passions and ideals.
