Karara Mining Limited
The largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid West.
On the 5th of August representatives from Karara Mining Limited (KML) attended the Morawa’s 8th Biennial Art Award’s and Exhibition held at the Shire of Morawa town hall. The representatives included the GM of HSEC Dr Gaomai Trench, Manager of Port and Rail Mr George Savell and Community & Heritage Officer Mr Nathan Croke.
KML has sponsored this biennial event since 2008 and this input has directly helped to grow the Shire of Morawa’s signature event to what it is today.
Dr Gaomai Trench was called upon to present the Midwest Aboriginal Art Award and projected Karara’s continued economic and social contribution to the Midwest of Western Australia.
Dr Trench thanked the Traditional Custodians of the land and the local community and reiterated KML’s continued sponsorship of the biennial event since 2008 and other community initiatives such as the dental van and community farm, spoke about KML’s direct and indirect employment opportunities in the thousands which have stemmed from the Karara Iron Ore Project. The KML mine site is 75km from the township of Morawa and KML appreciates its bilateral partnership with the Morawa shire and is looking forward to working together on future endeavours; and thanked the event organisers and artists who contributed to such a high calibre display for all.
Dr Trench, Manager of Port and Rail Mr George Savell and Community & Heritage Officer Mr Nathan Croke helped to collectively present the Midwest Aboriginal Art Award to Ms Nikki Dickerson (not present).
