2022 Microsoft Work Trend - "How To Make Hybrid Working Work"

On the 16th of March, Microsoft released their second annual Work Trend Index. With the current climate we are living in it comes as no surprise it focused on "Making Hybrid Work Work."

Microsoft drew on five urgent trends business leaders need to know:

-??????????Employees have a new "worth it" equation

o??53% of employees are more likely to prioritise health and wellbeing over work than before the pandemic

o??47% of respondents are more likely to put family and personal life over work than they were before the pandemic

-?????????Managers feel wedged between leadership and employee expectation

o??54% of managers say leadership is out of touch with employees

o??52% of employees are considering going hybrid or remote in the year ahead, BUT 50% of leaders say their company plans to require full-time in-person work!

-??????????Leaders need to make the office worth the commute

o??54% of leaders are currently redesigning meeting spaces/offices for hybrid work, or have a plan to in the year ahead BUT only 43% of remote and 44% of hybrid workers do not feel included in meetings

-??????????Flexible work doesn’t have to mean "always on"

o??Being hybrid may mean more flexibility, but digital overload is still at risk

o??252% increase in weekly time spent in meetings for the average Teams user since February 2020

-??????????Rebuilding social capital looks different in a hybrid world

o??51% of hybrid workers say they’re likely to go remote in the year ahead BUT 43% of leaders say relationship building is the greatest challenge in remote and hybrid work

The key findings teach us a lot about the changes employees want from their workplace and gives us an insight into what the workplace will look like in the coming years. By releasing this report, Microsoft is making us reflect on the working environment we want employers to offer and holds employers accountable if they aren’t keeping up with the changing trends!

What questions should you be asking yourself to see if your current company aligns with these trends…

What are they doing to make flexible working easier?

Do you have the support to put your health about work?

Are you able to work from home in your current company? If not, is there a reason why you can’t?

What is your environment like at work? What incentive do you have to come into the office?

At Thor, we have a table tennis table and fresh fruit (to name a couple of the reasons it's a great office) and at Otium we had dogs in the office!

Rufus, the husky, the Otium office dog.

The pandemic changed everyone’s lives in many ways, including, for many people, putting personal wellness and their family and friends above work. The trend of staying in a position you are not enjoying, or where you must put your work before your wellness is over.

I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the report and what your companies do to support hybrid working!

If you are reading this and you are not feeling satisfied at your company and you work within the M365 or cloud market in Norway please reach out and I will change that for you! Or if Thor sounds like a place you would like to work please reach out!
