2022: Looking back on a transformative year
Nursing shortages, patient acuity increase, and an uptick in behavioral health challenges have created a perfect storm in healthcare. Nurses are being stretched too thin and constantly asked to do more with less. As we look back on the past year, we reflect on these challenges and how healthcare leaders have had to adapt to keep patients safe and healthy.?
1- Staffing challenges and efficiency: With a variety of pressures on nurses and care teams, it's more important than ever to make sure that the right person is doing the right job at the right time. Many hospitals have looked to the evidence-based solution including the AvaSure TeleSitter ? solution, which can help virtually monitor up to 16 patients at once, replacing the need for 1:1 sitters. The TeleSitter solution can dramatically reduce labor spent on sitters while increasing the quality of care.
2- Considering virtual care:?As the nursing industry looks for ways to address workforce shortages and allow nurses to practice at the top of their licenses, virtual nursing is an area of growing interest. With a range of models being considered, from expert oversight to a clinical resource TeleNurse, it's clear that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. However, the buzz around virtual care in 2022 indicates that a high percentage of nurse leaders are considering it as a solution. While there are certainly challenges to be overcome, the potential benefits – including improved patient outcomes and increased efficiency – make it a promising area for further exploration and implementation.
3- The power of CNO + CIO, together: The collaboration between nursing and IT has become an important part of the healthcare landscape. Nursing is now leading the charge when it comes to driving change and implementing new technologies, with a focus on improving outcomes and finding innovative ways to provide care. When CNOs engage IT, teams, early, IT ensures the resources and long-term supportability is available to facilitate meaningful solutions.??
