On Thursday, June 30, 2022 during Session 2 of the 2022 IEEE TryEngineering TESI STEM? Career Panel Discussion was even a more success than Session 1 if you can believe that it was possible. The TESI program is designed for? 8th – 12th grade school students to explore various engineering fields, such as Electronics,
Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, and Aerospace. The TESI program also facilitated an opportunity for students to meet working engineers and experience a VIP tour at the NASA Johnson Space Center.?
The VIP tour included a behind-the-scenes tour and discussion with NASA Engineering personnel. Additionally their were tour of working technology labs at Rice University campus State-of-the-art engineering facilities, and STEM experiments.
The highlight of the program, however, was the STEM panel session with IEEE professionals. IEEE Sr. Member, TonyTrim an Oil and Gas Solutions Architect for Eaton, Sr. Information Technology Consultant Phil Bautista, Cheryl Wisdom,?
Sr. Large Motors & Drives Consultant, Walter Hyde experienced O&G professional, and Dr. Julian Morales Galveston Bay Section Chair and STEM professional.
A special thanks to Houston Section Chair and R5 South Area Chair, Christopher Sanderson, who was on the panel and help facilitated some of the panel conversation along with Tony and Phillip. ?

The panelists spoke on their individual experiences in their respective engineering fields. Questions ranged from Why did you choose your STEM field in Engineering? To What were some of the obstacles you experienced?
It was amazing to be in the Hall of so many similar shared STEM experiences.
The panel shared a variety of experiences on why they chose engineering as a profession, Why they chose their college? To How much they enjoy their profession? The panelists were truthful and passionate with their experiences. It was clear that these panelists wanted to share with these students not just to choose STEM as a profession but to also make the right choices in their personal lives along the way. There was a fountain of advice given about classes, study habits, workplace culture, and placing the right people around you. As you can imagine these were interesting and engaging questions.
?It was a great opportunity for these young future STEM? professionals to see how broad the field STEM is and how STEM majors come from all different walks of life. Pursuing a career in STEM truly provides diverse opportunities. The TESI program showed how engineering can make a difference in our communities. The TESI program is also a great chance for educators to learn how to tailor their lesson plans to increase their student’s interest in engineering and technology careers.
