2022 Graphic Design?Trends.
Graphic design trends, what are they and why do we care in 2022? It’s honestly up to you to decide but I would argue that the reason we care is that we want to be the best. We want to create remarkable visuals that communicate the ideas that we need in an era where we have seen so much before. With that being said let’s dive into these trends.
Escapism.
Based on the idea of escaping reality and finding peace, energy, and something new, escapism allows the viewer and creator to find distant lands and imagine life. Born from the inner desire that we have to explore, these creators push the envelope of what is possible and help us see life for something more.
Anti-design.
Rebellion, overcorrection, and turning off the grid- anti-design has it all. This design movement puts an end to the Golden Ratio and the middle finger to the Fibonacci sequence. It creates a randomness and chaos that is either a mess or one of the most visually intriguing compositions you may ever see. Take a look at these creators pushing the envelope.
Motion.
With the rise of Lottie animations and the need for interaction becoming more prevalent- motion is becoming more and more a staple. Transitions, easing, and Bezier curves make the great designs remarkable by inspiring us to get up and move. These creators accomplish just that.

Y2K.
With the rise of Korean and Japanese pop culture and the beautiful typography and design comes that of Y2K. Born in the pop movements of the late 90s and, I would argue done much better today, we can see beautiful gradients, soft palettes, and typography that you need to get up close to read. All of these creators do a brilliant job at installing that nostalgia and bringing that forward.
Grunge.
Seattle, London, Vancouver, and New York all have one thing in common…GRUNGE. Pulling inspiration from foggy gray clouds rolling in with a touch of mist that one can feel as they breathe, these creators establish a composition that Nirvana would be proud of.
Summary.
Trends are just that, they are trends. To any new designers, do not feel as though these have to be in every work this year but instead experiment with them this year as a challenge. Find what speaks to you and make it better than the previous person. I enjoyed doing the research for this project and found this comprehensive list from 99design to be excellent, take a look if you want more ideas. For me my favorite trends are Grunge and Y2K, let me know what yours are down below.
