2022 Conference Circuit Summary

The end of November signals the end of my 2022-event circuit. The next few weeks will be catching up on the analytical work, planning next year and of course Holiday Themed Meetups. Here are some of the larger event/conference/meetup activities I participated in this year and some general commentary:

1.? MWC 2022 (Mobile World Congress) & 4YFN : Although I did not successfully attend this event this year due to Covid airline issues, thought I would make a mention as it is one of the larger events, I generally attend each year. It is a very large event and I always gain market insights from attendance as it has such a massive amount of industry participation from corporates, analysts, futurists and #startup from around the world.

2.? Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA) #IC22 Annual Conference: ?First year attending IRL. It was a good event to meet with a great number of PE and VC firms nationally to discuss topics related to the private investment industry in Canada. For me I met many people #IRL for the first time as I had only known them virtually. Real life is much better!! 3.? Collision Conf : This was one of the best tech events I attended in 2022 nationally as it set the stage for some of my other events both internationally and domestically through the wonderful connections I made at the event. I met some interesting #startups and #entrepreneurs on the hustle as well as many #investor colleagues sifting through #dealflow. Farial K Brandon T. 4.? Startupfest : First time for business in Montreal in many years, I much enjoyed the re-introduction to the business community and look forward to further trips to the Montreal tech ecosystem. The event was small, however there were not many silos and connecting with people was relatively easy during the day activities. I was able to meet many interesting startups working on the future of #healthtech #work (Only badge in my collection I lost this year-sorry/pardon). 5.? Venture Capital Association of Alberta (VCAA) - Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (CVCA) Stampede: Great to connect with the investment and tech ecosystem in Alberta, a very small and intimate gathering, perfect for meeting the key players in the Alberta Ecosystem. 6.? HarbourVest Partners Annual Meeting: Enjoyed the market insights discussion and networking. This was the first one I have attended IRL. I much preferred it to the virtual version as the side conversations on industry insights, investments and tech trends were more interesting. Great conversations with several attendees: Garren H. 7.? Elevate Toronto : Attended unexpectedly, found it more of a corporate Toronto community event rather than a tech startup scene, however it provided a great opportunity to meet some up and commers to future industry as well as re-connect with some colleagues that attended Collision. 8.? SaaStock : If you are in #saas and investing or building in Europe this is definitely a worthwhile attendance. Met many interesting innovators and investors at #SaaStock. I especially enjoyed the #investorstock workshop the day before the event kicked off, the round table discussions and networking opportunities were great. 9.? Web Summit : For those of you who have frequent interaction with me, will know that I am currently very interested in #web3. This conference is a must for anyone interested in the space or a #futurist in general. The energy of excitement and #innovation was felt during this conference both coming from the #entrepreneur & #investor Communities, met some great people too many to list but here are a few mentions: Talal T. 10. SAAS NORTH Conference : Always nice to be an Ecosystem Host, arguable one of the best years, however every year is different and is uniquely great. Our annual investor session grew in attendance, and I look forward to planning the next one. Like SaaStock if you are in the business of SaaS in Canada this is a worthwhile attendance for both insights, meeting entrepreneurs and engaging with investors focused in the space.
