2022 Apple Awards, Emergency SOS via satellite, Indie App Santa and more...

Hello fellow Apple enthusiast, entrepreneur, business owner or professional using your Mac, iPhone or iPad to make a living!

Hope you and your family are in good health and not too impacted by the global events going on right now.

This is your bi-weekly dose of Apple-related news, curated and summarised just for you ???

Before jumping in the news, here's a fun fact:

On?Dec 2nd, 1991, Apple released the first version of?QuickTime?which allowed anyone with a personal computer to play?colour?videos. Before that, only specialised computers could do it. Two years later, Microsoft and Intel hired the same subcontractor that developed QuickTime for Windows to optimise their own Video For Windows technology. Apple discovered that code from Quicktime was reused in Video For Windows and on?Dec 6th, 1994,?Apple sued the subcontractor, Intel and Microsoft. It's this?lawsuit's settlement?in 1997 that is believed to have helped Apple survive until the early 2000s and the iPod revolution.

This allowed the Apple Emergency Response Center to provide the GPS coordinates to volunteer searchers who located and transported the stranded person.

iOS 16.1.2

On Nov 30th, Apple released iOS 16.1.2 bringing improved compatibility with wireless carriers and optimisations to the iPhone 14 Crash Detection algorithm (Source:?AppleInsider)

Apple hasn't communicated yet on the potential security issues that might have been addressed with this update.

When they'll do, it will be available on this page:?https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201222

If your iPhone is still running iOS 15, I recommend staying on it a little while more.

If your iPhone is already on iOS 16, then make sure to do a backup (iCloud or computer) before installing the iOS 16.1.2 update.
