2022 and 2030: Changing the Metaphor - Part 3
In geopolitics, local politics and faith, the difference between involvement and commitment can be described by bacon and eggs. In bacon and eggs, the chicken is involved but the pig is committed. On the animal farm, as George Orwell pointed out, all the animals are equal, but some are more equal than others;
After January 6th, some of our citizens with which we the people are "equal," have spent $40-60,000 to protect themselves and their families from the violence;
and idolatry;
which results in the daily placing of the American flag at half-mast;
Some have tried to escape from the harsh consequences of a changing climate;
In considering whether global and local events require of us that we spend similar amounts in protecting our families or escape, we need to consider Tuchman’s Law; we need to clear the air and we need to continue to elect and select competent bankers, logisticians, politicians, lawyers and educators.
Most of all, we must learn to engage; to do as Abraham Lincoln;
Schopenhauer;
and Mother Teresa did. ? Judge not lest we be judged, ? Lincoln exhorted in his Second Inaugural Address. Mother Teresa’s exhortation is;
Clearing the Air and the Link
The Clean Air Act of 1970 ? remains the most powerful public health law enacted in the 20th Century in the United States, ? according to Paul Billings of the American Lung Association.
According to National Geographic, concentrations of hazardous PM2.5 (fine particles with diameters under 2.5 micrograms per cubic meter) decreased from a high of 39 in Los Angeles in 1981, to a high of 12 in Los Angeles in 2016;
"In September 2020 the West Coast had some of the worst air pollution in the world because of raging wildfires. It saw levels of PM2.5 typically associated with large cities in Asia, such as Delhi, India" - National Geographic;
