2021 The Year of Change
Well, 2021 keeps getting better.
First a quick recap from my last article.
I had decided to quit my fulltime role as a trainer / assessor for a private rto in order to become a casual trainer, working for a number of rto’s. I did this so I could focus on the courses I wanted to deliver and to give me and my family the flexibility to take time as necessary to take breaks, and for me to reconnect with industry and do some meaningful professional development.
Last time I wrote an article I told readers I would keep them updated as to what is happening.
Well, everything is going extremely well. I have already got bookings up to July and I am enjoying it all. Life has become very relaxed. In my roles in VET education I feel like I have pretty much accomplished what I want to do with the exceptions of two things. Working for TAFE (has been a long-standing goal) and working internationally as a VET educator.
This week I was offered the chance to work for North West TAFE in regional Western Australia as a lecturer. And I have jumped at the opportunity. Shortly I will be moving to WA to live and begin a new chapter. I am tremendously excited about the opportunity that awaits me.
Unfortunately, that means I must humbly say thank you for the opportunities I have been offered here in Brisbane. A sincere thank you to those training organisations who I had agreed to work casually for. But opportunities like this do not happen every day.
Finally, for anyone who has been part of my work life in Brisbane either as a colleague, family member, friend, mentor or student, thank you. It has been the ride of a lifetime and I have thoroughly enjoyed it all. I have made this city my home since 1994 and although I fully intend to return someday, for now it is farewell. Not goodbye though.
I would encourage anyone who needs a bit of a change of circumstances to think outside the box, back yourself and go find solutions that fit you and your family.
