The Ozy story continues to emphasize the gravity of verification for all media buys. Knowing your rep or meeting the CEO is not an adequate substitute for verifying your ad dollars.
At best, some publishers are ignorant of the issues as they continue to buy traffic to meet an advertiser’s request. At worst, some publishers are malicious and their bottom line is to take your ad dollars.
If you are a publisher, stop buying traffic sub penny per click. If you are a marketer, start asking questions about traffic acquisition. If you are an investor, do your diligence on acquisitions and growth plans.

“Google drew a line in the sand, and then simply made a new line for 2023,” wrote Method Media Intelligence’s chief revenue officer, Marc Goldberg, referring to the fact that Google initially said the third-party cookie would be removed from Chrome by early 2022—then pushed the deadline to 2023 over the summer. “Despite all the hype, the impact to a marketer is not as significant. While Chrome has a majority of the market share, they are not the first browser to deprecate third-party cookies. Their announcement, complete with imminent dates, created a sense of urgency.”

Using AI to detect misinformation is also tricky, because it can be biased towards its designers and the input data, said Marc Goldberg, CRO of web analytics and bot detection company Method Media Intelligence, and that means AI models need human input.
“The hate lexicon has evolved beyond a few common words, although it can be easily determined as hate when paired with a human and context,” said Goldberg.
“COVID misinformation is new territory,” he said. “And since we don’t understand the virus to start with, only the most egregious misinformation can be identified by both humans and technology and applied to models.”
