2021 McKinstry B.L.U.E Internship Program
McKinstry welcomed one of?its?largest?cohorts of interns?to the B.L.U.E?(Build, Learn, Understand, Enrich)?program?in early June.?Fifty-five?students?from across the nation joined teams?across?our lines of business and corporate service units?to provide their expertise and growing their knowledge?in areas?ranging from?Marketing and Talent Acquisition to Project Management, Engineering, and many areas?in between.?
The McKinstry B.L.U.E Program brings together the best and brightest students?and provides them with a meaningful internship experience. Our internships are designed to authentically reflect what a career at McKinstry looks like. We take a hands-on approach that is structured to build a foundation of industry knowledge. We also work hard to facilitate?personal and professional growth through collaboration, exploration,?and mentorship.?Our program connects interns with mentors, work teams, and fellow interns through?a paid, full-time,?12-week experience.??
This year's cohort, as well as those from summer 2020, dealt with the difficult challenge of fulfilling their internship during a global pandemic. Under normal circumstances, interns would gather in Seattle to attend the two-day B.L.U.E Experience program?to kick off their 12-weeks at McKinstry.?However, due to the inability to gather in one location, interns experienced the program virtually.?As difficult a task as this was, we are so proud of?our interns for making the best out of their experience.??
Although our welcome was virtual, many interns?have now been?able to?go into the office or to a jobsite?and get?that ever-important?hands-on experience?as well as in-person networking.?Brianna Corbett, an intern working with our Manufacturing Analytics team?in?Seattle?quickly took to?Yammer ?to showcase some of her?experiences?while in the?fabrication?shop.??
“This area drew my attention for the innovation and efficiency. These carrier skids save clients time and money during installation. Another example of professionals working hard to produce plumbing that is both functional and eye-catching (until it gets covered up by a wall ??).”?
Our interns are an integral part of McKinstry. We’re proud to say that more than 80 percent of our full-time interns?over the last five years are still with us today as employees.??
