2021 Global Awards Top Placer Professional Services
On October 17th I received an email from Kristal Parcon, Secretariat, International Trade Council, stating that, “The International Trade Council is pleased to announce that Barry W. Colby & Associates was a Top Placer for Professional Services?in the 2021 Go Global Awards.” On the 14th October, 2021, the International Trade Council announced the winners of the 2021 Go Global Awards
I am thankful and appreciative of the recognition, honour and the privilege the International Trade Council and the GO Global Judging Panel of Examiners have given me as well as the supporting sponsors and partners whose contributions lead to the Awards success. I understand the considerable challenge they had because of my own past experiences with awards and quality system audit processes.
The 2021 Go Global Award
I am a founding member of the Manitoba Quality Awards (MQA) and served as an examiner and a judge and committee member for 10 years. The Manitoba Quality Awards was based on the Canada Awards for Excellence, the national quality awards of Canada. They are administered by Excellence Canada, a not-for-profit organization on behalf of the Governor General of Canada. Industry Canada established the awards in 1984 as the Canadian Business Excellence Awards.?
In the United States, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award (MBNQA) was established by the U.S. Congress in 1987 to raise awareness of quality management and recognize U.S. companies that have implemented successful quality management systems. The award is the?nation's highest presidential honor for performance excellence.
In 1993, as the Chair of ASQC-Manitoba, I felt the legacies of the volunteers and the organizations, supporting quality in Manitoba, needed recognition for their continuous and committed dedication to local and regional quality efforts in Manitoba. So, I wrote the submission to the award process. Regardless of the outcome, this would demonstrate an engaged participation in the quality award process. The feedback report would reflect an independent review, documenting of our volunteer efforts and indicate any gaps requiring actions for improvement.?
We received a 1993 Manitoba Quality Award, Striving for Excellence. It was the 2nd level of 3 tiers. (There is an error in the award inscription. ASQC-Manitoba had no employees; we were all volunteers.) This appears similar to the Top Placer Award. The MQA award improved continuously over the years to reflect the improvements made to the Canada Awards for Excellence program.?

The Go Global Panel Judges
The Go Global Judging Panel of Examiners presented the 2021 Go Global Awards were;
Winning an Award – or receiving a placement or honourable mention - is no small feat. The 2021 Go Global Awards received a total of 6,416 entries, coming from organizations in 178 countries. The breadth of award nominations was truly amazing.?
The International Trade Council is humbled by the organizations who, in the face of a global pandemic, have displayed leadership, resilience and innovation, while embracing change and supporting their employees and communities in a way never seen before.
Originally launched in 1989, The International Trade Council’s Go Global Awards celebrate organizations that drive the global economy through their innovations, technologies, and strategies.?
The Go Global Awards follow a rigorous three-tiered review/selection process. Candidates begin the application process with a pre-screening / ranking phase. The top 20% of nominations across all categories are then cross-reviewed to ensure consistency. Finalists are then selected and move forward to the live judging event, where they present before independent members of the Go Global Awards Committee. The Awards Committee then cross-reviews the finalist presentations and the final decisions are announced at the Go Global Awards Day.
The Awards bring together hundreds of senior executives from some of the world’s most innovative manufacturers, exporters, technology firms, international service providers, venture capital firms and financial institutions.?
While the Go Global Awards offer the opportunity to be recognized and honored by their peers it also goes beyond winning trophies and citations. The program aims to build a community of senior executives from across the globe to support one another, share ideas, create partnerships, and build on their existing knowledge and connections.
My reason for entering the award this year is that we are global citizens. As global citizens we all provide services to one another.?Services require individuals, organizations, institutions and governments to meet local, regional, national and international needs. Given today’s “environments of crisis”, questions are becoming more specific and concrete to address survivability of humanity and other life forms rather than questioning sustainability. How does a citizen make a difference???How does a real person make the impossible, possible??Trade is not just the exchange of goods and services rather it is the consideration of equity, the building of communities and learning how to the bridge the gap to relationships by developing community and building capacity.?

This includes my third submission to the fourth edition of the Paris Peace Forum. The fourth edition of the Paris Peace Forum is dedicated to bridging global governance gaps. My submission was on behalf of my community relationships over the years and more specifically my veterans associations, whose members served so their legacies are remembered through their dedication to service to others before self, gave us the freedoms to express our views in our voices.??
Given I am an just ordinary member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans of Canada, these are people who understand what service to country means. What it means to serve and what equity means with respect character, integrity and competence.?They understand what it means to be a citizen of Canada. These are people who have lived experienced, the good, the bad, the ugly and the evil. We all live those legacies each and every day.
While my 2021 submission to the Paris Peace Forum was not successful, the 2021 theme, Designs Orchestrate Technologies; SCIENCE, was in continued support of Canada’s contribution to November’s 2021 World Quality Month. ?https://parispeaceforum.org/en/news/the-4th-edition-highlights/
