2021 Can-Am Commander 1000DPS Budget Build

This latest project has been in the works for some time now and I am just doing the finishing touches to it this week before the Wyoming winter settles in here. My objective was to take a bone stock 2021 Can-Am Commander 1000DPS utv and do a modest budget build on it, to get it near what the XT-P model represents. I feel that my budget build took on a life of its own and far surpasses in my opinion what the XT-P model represents.

Most everything that I did to this machine someone could do in their own garage at home, and only takes a modest mechanical skill set to accomplish what I did with this machine. To start out the Commander has good bones, and in stock form is an excellent all around utv service vehicle that can be used for almost any type of riding from work to pleasure.

We started this build by going to Can-Am’s/BRP’s accessory catalog. You can actually get on their web site and do a virtual build of most of their accessories, giving you a picture of what it will look like when their products are added to your machine.

Note: Before we start any build the very first thing is I purchase a shop service manual for the vehicle we will be working. Go prepared and get prepared! Know your ride!

Custom dune flag poles and mounts. I bought them at the dune store at Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan a zillion years ago J I cut them a bit shorter than required in Michigan, and added custom attachment pins for easy removal when not in use.

?Throughout this build process I used tried and true accessories that would make this Commander a much nicer ride that was build to enhance my utv offroad adventures. I looked for parts that were durable, affordable, and looked like they were added from the factory.

I think I accomplished that, and I feel this machine just looks right. I have been asked already if this is the way the Commander came from the factory. I will take that compliment!
