Nowadays, the tile options available for your kitchen or bath remodeling projects are becoming more and more stylish. There are so many varieties of design, color, shape and even texture to choose from. Not long ago, tiles were primarily installed for their functional benefits but today their aesthetic benefits are just as important to homeowners. In fact, in many cases the aesthetic of the tile is the most important thing to the homeowner.
Due to this shift in customer interest, tile manufacturers have expanded their catalogues to include more options that are truly unique in style and design. After consulting with our tile experts at Arley Wholesale, we discovered today’s top bathroom tile trends that you may want to incorporate into your new bathroom design.
Trend 1: Graphic Patterns
This style really allows homeowners to tap into their creative side!
Regardless of whether the tiles are on the floor or wall, graphic tile patterns can act as the perfect accent for any bathroom. They come in a huge variety, from subtle hues to bold contrasting colors! This trend is first on our list because it truly has become huge, especially in recent years. In fact, patterned tiles are set to gain even more popularity in the coming years. So, keep your eyes peeled!
Trend 2: Matte Finishes
Matte finish tiles have followed us into this new year. They are a delicate but powerful style that doesn’t make your bathroom feel too overwhelming. One of the best things about matte tiles is that smudges and water marks don’t show up as easily, in comparison to glossy tile styles. So this makes them the perfect tile for the bathroom floor, especially in busy bathrooms!
When installing matte tiles in your bathroom, make sure there is sufficient amounts of artificial and/or natural light, as matte tiles don’t reflect light.
So, if you’re looking for an understated style that’s sophisticated, go for a matte finish option. They’re also an excellent option if you want your bathroom to feel more earthy. However, if you’re looking for a tile that is more dramatic, a glossy finish is probably best for you.
Trend 3: Neutral Tiles
For years, contemporary bathroom designs have used neutral color palettes and this is still true today. Bright colors such as blue, yellow and red are not often used in bathrooms. Instead, homeowners and designers are sticking with neutrals, especially greys and creams! For the bathrooms that need more brightness, white is an excellent addition to the color palette.
For many people, the bathroom is a place of solitude and relaxation and the use of neutral colors reinforces the feeling of relaxation in the space. Neutral colors can be used for just about anything in the bathroom, from the floor to the ceiling. However, to prevent the bathroom from feeling lifeless and boring, you can layer in different neutral color shades, textures, shapes and/or tile finishes. This will help tie the entire space together without impacting the relaxing atmosphere.
Trend 4: Dimensional Tiles
The colors and patterns of tiles are not the only features becoming more diverse, manufacturers are also getting creative with the shapes of tiles! In 2020, bathroom tile trends are going to vary from the traditional rectangle to a range of other geometric shapes. One shape, in particular, that has recently become more popular is the hexagon. Hexagonal tiles have made their way into bathrooms all over the world and come in a range of sizes, colors and textures. They are most popular for use on the shower floor!
When used in small bathrooms, dimensional tiles help increase the perception of space, especially when they’re matched well with a neutral color palette. On the other hand, when used in a large bathroom, dimensional tiles help form artistic accents in places like a spa/shower area or even your makeup station.
Trend 5: Marble Tile Flooring
Marble is a high quality material that has been popular for thousands of years due to it’s beautifully luxurious appearance. As Marble is a natural stone, the colors and patterns of every piece is entirely unique. Marble did decrease in popularity for a short period of time but in 2020 this natural stone is coming back!
Homeowners that are aiming for a luxurious, high-end bathroom often choose marble flooring as it gives an effortless touch of luxury to any space. However, you don’t necessarily have to purchase real marble to enjoy the marble style. Modern technology allows tile manufacturers to give porcelain tiles a marble-look, which is perfect for homeowners that want a luxurious look on a lower budget.
