What is it like being a father? It is like an artist peering at a blank canvas wondering what paint shall I pick up from the store. Let me buy as many bottles as my wallet can handle. Buy some reds, blues, greens, yellows, and even some colors that I have never seen before.
Wait?
Will I be the one doing the painting?
Will society help or the television or technology?
Wishing you can keep her/him protected from seeing too much, hearing too much, experiencing too much, eating too much, drinking too much.
Wait?
Remember that’s how I learned and became the man I am today with the responsibility of helping paint a masterpiece.
Will it be a William Johnson, a Picasso, a Van Gogh, or a new creation quietly maneuvering to take the world by storm?
Provide the canvas.
Provide the paint.
Take a step back and be open as you begin to coach, guide, recommend, suggest, teach, disagree, agree, cry, protect, laugh, and last but not least, LOVE, regardless of how the painting appears to the world.
My definition of being a father, daddy, da-da, pappa, poppi for May 12, 2020! Tomorrow’s will be different. :-) --Demetrius
