Goal Setting for the new you in the New Year. What is the difference between a dream and a goal? "The written word."
Okay, you wrote it down, done goal achieved, not likely. We need to do more than simply scribble down some ideas on a piece of paper. Our goals need to be complete and focused, much like a road map or navigating your personal GPS. Without direction and/plan you would drive aimlessly.
Specific – Measurable – Attainable – Relevant - Timely GOALS are what is desired to not dream but achieve SMART GOALS.
Feel free to follow the outline below to help you create the road map to achieving your goals.
Goal Setting for the new you in the New Year.
1. Make sure the goal you are working for is something you really want, not just something that sounds good. When setting goals, it is very important to remember that your goals must be consistent with your values.
2. Develop goals in the areas of life:
- HOME & FAMILY
- CULTURAL & SOCIAL
- EDUCATION
- PHYSICAL & HEALTH
- SPIRITUAL / RELIGIOUS
- CAREER & FINACIAL
Setting goals in each area can help you ensure a more balanced life as you begin to examine and change the fundamentals of everyday living.
3. Write your goal with a positive outlook, applying a WISE method: Wisdom – Investigate - Strategy – Execute.
Be sure to write down and examine your goals to create a set of instructions for your subconscious mind to carry out. Your subconscious only function is to carry out its instructions. The more constructive instructions you give it, the more positive results you will obtain. Taking a realistic approach and apply the WISE method.
? Wisdom is defined by having experience, knowledge, and good judgment. Setting a goal that you have some knowledge / experience in or on could be a helpful step in the right direction.
? Investigate such as what will it take to learn and prioritize to be successful.
? Strategy would be the plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.
? Execute Put plan into effect and succeed.
Thinking positively in everyday life will also help in your growth as a human being. Don’t limit it to goal setting.
4. Write your goal detailed. Instead of writing “lose weight” be Specific, write down you want to lose #lbs. and by what date/time you look to achieve this goal. You are giving the subconscious mind a detailed set of instructions to work on. The more information you give it, the clearer the final outcome becomes.
5. Set the bar high.
Aim for the moon, if you don’t make it to the moon you’ll still be with the stars. As an example, if your goal is to lose 20-lbs. in 2020 but you only lose 15-lbs., your still better than you started out. In y case, maybe 2lbs., but it's still better than I started. Regardless of your outcome, this goal is Measurable.
6. Write down your goals.
Writing down your goals will help you make the roadmap for a successful journey. As well as set the process in motion, but it is important to review your goals frequently. The more focused you are on your goals the more likely to be Attainable. Along your journey you might realize you have to revise a goal as circumstances and other goals change. If you need to change a goal do not consider it a failure, consider it a victory as you had the insight to realize what is Relevant & Timely.
SMART GOALS
Please note; unless someone is critical in helping you achieve your goal(s), do not freely share your goals with others. The negative attitude from friends, family and neighbors might have negative impact and drag you down quickly.
Be certain to review your goals daily, as it will be a crucial part of your success and must become part of your routine. Each morning when you wake up read your list of goals that are written in the positive. Visualize the completed goal, look and see the scale, you have both feet on and your 16 lbs. less. Each night, right before you go to bed, repeat the process. This process will start both your subconscious and conscious mind on working towards the goal. This will also begin to replace any of the negative self-talk you may have and replace it with positive self-talk. It is okay to talk to yourself, as long as it is geared towards positive reinforcement.
Every time you make a decision during the day, ask yourself this question, “Does it take me closer to, or further from my goal.” If the answer is “further from,” well, you know what to do.
Follow this process every day in 2020 and you will be on your way to achieving unlimited success in every aspect of your life. Many have written similar content in the past, so I cannot take full credit for this article, however if I didnt write it down I couldn't achieve my goal. Best of luck to you all in 2020 and beyond.

4 年Great article Anthony! I've always believed writing your goals down is the most important first step in achieving them. I remember writing down goals in a pocket organizer I carried. Some goals carried over into the new year and others were crossed off. Now everything is digital and tracking goals has never been easier. I use Google Tasks and Google Notes for pretty much all my goal and task tracking.
