2020- The year that was @ NSEFI
Subrahmanyam Pulipaka
CEO - National Solar Energy Federation of India | Vice Chair- Global Solar Council
2020 has been nothing but testing times. Engulfed by COVID-19, almost every activity, every industry and every sector witnessed disruptions and the solar industry isn't an exception either. However, it is worthy to note that Indian Solar Industry achieved many milestones in 2020 and NSEFI is glad to be part of some of them.
While we started 2020 with the launch of our Indian Market Outlook Report in March the onset of COVID-19 eclipsed our planned activities. However it did not de-rail the motivation or compassion of our team at Secretariat which ensured that all the planned activities for 2020 are fully and thoroughly organized.
We have been closely working with the industry in the initials months of the disruption to sensitize the ministry on issues faced by solar stakeholders in the wake of COVID-19 and I am happy to share that all of our representations/requests including but not limited to Blanket Extension, PBG reduction, ISTS Waiver extension etc have been duly(in-a-time-bound manner) were addressed by the Government.
We sent over 500 representations to 43 government bodies, started a portal to track live curtailment and conducted more than 30 stakeholder meetings with/in presence of Government officials. [ PS: On an average NSEFI was mentioned in the news once in every three days in 2020 too :) ]
We turned 9 this year and celebrated it virtually with many of you. We accelerated our proactive policy advocacy efforts by working on initiatives like PV Recycling, Agro PV, O&M Best Practices Guidelines which have been well received by the Ministry. 2020 also witnessed NSEFI expanding its global outreach by signing key MoUs with our counterparts in Israel, South Korea and Vietnam.
We ended 2020 on a high note, where in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister of Vietnam, NSEFI Chairman Pranav R Mehta signed an MoU of cooperation with our Vietnamese Counterpart.
At NSEFI secretariat we are excited and pumped up for 2021. We have lined-up new initiatives on Green Hydrogen, Solar Manufacturing, Corporate Solar Procurement and residential solar awareness. 2021 will also witness overhauling of NSEFI committees to increase engagement of NSEFI members and to ensure the voice of the industry is well captured. Ranging from Representations, Transmission, Rooftop to Solar Pumps, Manufacturing, BoS etc NSEFI committees will represent the entire spectrum of Solar ecosystem in India.
All-in-All 2020 had been a truly phenomenal year for NSEFI and we are hoping for an even better 2021.
From NSEFI Secretariat we wholeheartedly wish you all a Happy and Safe New Year - 2021.
See you all in 2021
