2020 work highlights

2020 work highlights

A WORK THREAD. It has been the weirdest year of my career. I've had to relearn a job I've been doing for about 14 years. And it's been hard. Very hard at times. But I've also loved - genuinely loved - so much of this year. So. Here are some 2020 work highlights.

I couldn't not start with my podcast - The QuaranTea Break Podcast. It kept me sane. Went better than in my wildest dreams. But more than that, it has been a genuine career highlight. I hope to do more of these and launch some new podcasts in 2021.

BAFTA this year was so, so different. But we adapted. Starting with these preview videos of the categories that I scripted and produced (with @Laura_Rutkowski on interview duties), including the Virgin Media Must-See Moment of 2020.

We also did work on the BAFTA night itself with the fabulous Tom Allen who interviewed the stars.

More virtual stuff. And this time it was the return of V Festival. Working remotely to script and produce a series of videos with the lovely Big Zuu was a massive challenge, but was so pleased with the results.

I haven't written as much this year (IT HAS BEEN BUSY!), but doing the best TV moments of 2020 is always one of my highlights of the year. It takes me weeks (!!!), but I'm always so, so happy with the results.

I also LOVED doing a deep statistical dive into how to spot a Strictly Come Dancing winner. Bill Bailey’s Street/Commercial seemed to go down well, so I assume he read this...

Getting to write for The Big Issue is still a pinch me moment. I loved doing a big meaty feature around Mark Ruffalo’s film Dark Water. It has been a tough year for The Big Issue, but also their most creatively fertile. Please, please, please subscribe.

Thanks to everyone who supported me in 2020, whether you worked with me, commissioned me, read my work or listened to my podcast (or appeared on my podcast - those guys deserve to appear in the NY Honours).

For 2021, I hope to write more, and for outlets old and new. Do more podcasts (more QuaranTea Breaks, and launch a couple more). Would love to do some radio. Or maybe even host a Q&A. And to end 2021 as proud as I am this year.
