2020 Vision

What a year 2019 turned out to be, first there was Brexit, that became delayed, postponed and still not done. There were the Parliamentary votes, so many of them that most people not only lost track, but lost interest in the results.

The political system fell into dis-array, the leaders of all parties had their own internal turmoil to deal with, which left no clear way forward for the country. But then a certain Mr. Johnson put his best foot forward, and got a new deal, that will be put into place by the end of January 2020, but there will be a transition period.

UK manufacturing started to suffer with the delays and indecision coming out of Westminster, orders were held and production at the major car companies started to decline. The supply chains struggled with Brexit stock builds, that were then used as the votes were further delayed.

But, now there must be some clarity into 2020, the Government have a good majority and have the chance to make policy to help support our sector. Let’s get back to the fundamentals of a robust industrial strategy that supports and promotes the very best of UK manufacturing, innovation and investment. With a strategy that encourages business to push ahead, allowing the sector to again drive the economy forward.

We have, at our company, rebranded to become SDE Technology, to embrace the new and exciting processes and products that will be used on EV vehicles, with both lightweight and cost-effective solutions.

There are exciting times ahead, and my vision for the next year is one of positivity and enthusiasm. This is a message that many at top membership groups have supported, through Make UK, the CBM, Alfed, Made in the Midlands, The Manufacturer, Shropshire Business Magazine and the Shropshire Chamber.
