2020 - A milestone year
Most years I spout on about expectations across the Americas for 2020. You can shoot me down in December if I am miles out
- The USA will continue its strong economic performance. Any signs of trouble and suddenly we will see further "warming" of relations with China
- Brazil will see strong growth, particularly in technology and finance
- Argentina will continue to be a mixed bag, constrained by foreign concerns over capital controls. I see little growth here
- Chile will finally get back on track in February as the protests become less relevant and people go on holiday.
- Canada will remain fairly stagnant economically in 2020. No specific action is being taken to stimulate the economy or deal with resourcing issues
- Fiscal discipline and lower than expected oil revenues will stagnate Mexico. I expect no more than 1% GDP growth at best in 2020
- Now Colombia does look interesting. It has seen some growth in 2019 and looks set for another 3.5% whilst keeping inflation in check. Keep a watch on this one
- Peru keeps promising a stellar year. 2019 wasn't it and despite optimism I am going to say that 2020 won't be either
In other news I predict the following:
- A re-election in the USA. This is not a desire as I do not participate in politics, just a prediction
- A sizable new trade deal done at the speed of light between the UK and USA
- A strong move to Technology Managed Services
- A cooling off of Artificial Intelligence as people realize it is only a prediction
- The break up of major trading and risk platforms as banks move more and more to DevOps models with Cloud
- LIBOR transition reaching crunch proportions as people act too late
- England winning the UEFA European Championship !!
Have fun ! and do remember that I am not responsible for any actions or decisions you take based on these ramblings. They are simply that - RAMBLINGS !
