2020 Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award Recipient - Dale Jones Burch Neighborhood Center
The team at Burda Construction was honored to receive the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s 2020 Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award. The Moses Awards are given to projects that demonstrate excellence in the restoration, preservation or adaptive reuse of historic buildings, streetscapes.and landscapes.
Burda Construction is proud to be recognized as the General Contractor for the Henry Street Settlement’s conversion of a decommissioned firehouse into the Dale Jones Burch Neighborhood Center. Completed in 1884, the masonry and wood structure was designed by Napoleon LeBrun, architect of more than 40 New York City firehouses.
The firehouse fa?ade which had long suffered from deferred maintenance and piecemeal repairs was fully restored. The original Corinthian cast iron entry, sawtooth brickwork and metal cornice were all brought back to life. Inside, the approach was to restore historic character-defining components and introduce a sympathetic contemporary palette. The result highlights the building’s legacy and provides full modern functionality. An original fire pole is the main decorative element in the new lobby and remains a symbol of the continued dedication of this building to the service of it’s community.
Our thanks and congratulations go to the Henry Street Settlement, Beyer Blinder Belle and to the entire project team.
With nearly four decades in the construction industry, Burda Construction is proud to have won the Lucy Moses Award seven times, with four awards within the past six years.
