A 2020 Gambit

Six months ago a made a decision that, on paper, seemed patently ludicrous. I told my boss and friend Erin Volk that I had decided to pursue a career in city planning. AGC-CA is doing truly great work, creating avenues for economic mobility and advancement for California’s youth through Build California (with the support of the incredible team at 3fold Communications), fostering the future of the construction industry through the CLC, training and supporting the next generation of brilliant construction minds through Student Chapters, and so much more. AGC is STILL doing all this great work, and I’m thrilled to follow along - and cheer like hell - as they continue to inspire, develop and engage.

It was HARD to leave, but I couldn’t ignore that little voice telling me to take a leap of faith. So I did - in the midst of a global pandemic, an economic slowdown, and a nationwide jobless spike. I enrolled in UC Berkeley’s Summer Institute in City Planning while helping AGC through the transition. Then I moved 3,000 miles east to North Carolina.

It has been a stressful, daunting, but most of all thrilling gambit. While I can assure you, there are no chess pieces on the ceiling, ...

Today is my first day with the Town of Chapel Hill Planning Department! As Complete Streets Specialist, I’ll be helping this small but mighty team implement the Town’s Pedestrian Safety Action Plan, building a community that is safer and healthier for all residents and visitors, on our Road to Zero.

The gambit paid off, and I'm thrilled to launch this next chapter.
