2020 - Enter the Age of Endless Possibility

2020 - Enter the Age of Endless Possibility

2019 is winding down to a close, but so is the decade that was the 2010s. 2019 certainly had its roller coaster of ups and downs for all of us, but I can confidently say that there are learnings and teachings everywhere in 2019 as well as the decade previous. Before 2019 formally ends though, I do want to thank all of you wonderful people who helped make 2019 beautiful and truly special for me.

To give you a quick idea of how long ago 2010 actually was, it was the year that Apple released the iPhone 4, the Winter Olympics were in Vancouver, BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill created a disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, and a 16yo Justin Bieber (who was only discovered in 2008), continued to dominate the pop charts.

For many of us (myself included), New Years is a time for reflection on achievements (celebrating the wins) and then, in this life game of continuous improvement, looking at what we could have done better (room for improvement) and then retool, set goals, and get amped up for the year 2020 and beyond.

==========================

Collectively, let’s look within ourselves to set goals that we can look to embark on starting in 2020 and then achieve and measure annually as the decade progresses.

When people talk about leaving a lasting family legacy, don’t we have to be the example and set the tone for ourselves first?

 Do you have a role model? If not, this is the year to get one (or two).

 Do you have a personal family goal? If not, this is the year to get one (or two).

 Do you have a professional goal? If not, this is the year to get a few.

 ==========================

In a classic 1979 Harvard Business School study, they asked their graduating class asking if they had written goals and 84% of them said they had not but only 3% did. In 1989 (10 years later), when they followed up with the same graduates, those measly 3% that had a clear plan for their future goals were earning 10x more than then other 97% of the class put together!

Moral of that story: Write down your goals.

 All of this (and more) can be achieved if you set your mind (and sights) to it, but it must be done with humility and kindness. In the 2020s, we need to bury the egos and hatred for all it does it further cloud an already murky and muddled pool of water.

==========================

We all have oversized dreams and what I've learned is that it's not about how big or small they are because each one is created to perfectly fit the size of your heart. I mean, who would ever have thought that a Taylor Swift lyric would be my inspirational phrase to end the 2010s and welcome the 2020s with open arms?!

Wishing you and your loved ones all the best in 2020, cheers!
