2020 Election

Normally I do not post or write about anything that is politically related. I am a moderate independent; however, I wanted to post the letter below that was written by my esteemed friend whom shall remain nameless to one of his friends. I think embodies what is going on in this country and if very appropriate to our current political state of affairs. No matter which way you lean or think, the point is to VOTE and VOTE your conscience.

As I think you know, I was a Republican when we met at Old Stone Bank in l965. However, I did not ever vote a straight ticket. It became increasingly clear to me that I was not really a Republican at all. However, only a couple of years ago did I change my registration. It happened when Donald Trump won the Electoral College and became our president.

He is a mean man. Actually he is a bully. He is the most vain and self-centered person I have ever heard of. He is totally in this for himself. I equally dislike Mitch Mc Connell and Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul. Their kind of conservatism makes me sick. I may not be as fiscally liberal as Joe Biden or Barack Obama, but as people I infinitely prefer them to any of the Republicans I just listed and would far prefer them to be in charge of our government.

If you are supporting Donald Trump because he is a Republican, or if you find Joe Biden too liberal fiscally, I can respect that. However, if you are secretly a White Supremacist Racist, and these are the reasons you support Donald Trump, this conversation is over. I know there are many perfectly fine Christians, especially from the South, who are exactly that. However, I do not approve of these beliefs and am not willing to spend any more of my time trying to change their minds.

If you want to pursue our discussion on an intellectual basis, using well established facts as the basis, I am willing to do so. Otherwise, I think it best to admit that we are in entirely different places so far as the best future for our country. You vote for Trump, and I will vote for Biden. May the person God would choose win!
