2020, a challenging year for BuildWoW.

What a year...

2020 has been one of the most challenging years in recent history. The global pandemic has impacted the lives of so many and in so many different ways. The non-profit sector, and the communities they support, has been impacted especially as many donors, in the view of a recession and uncertain future, have been reluctant to contribute as they've done before. We completely understand this and will only be asking for your attention as we update you as to what has been going on with Building Walls of Wisdom, our charity partners, and the communities we support.

Building Walls of Wisdom

Our organization has always been very lean in how we operate. Our board is made up of all volunteers, we have no overhead costs, and always contribute 100% of the funds we raise to our charity partners. In short, although we have not been as busy this year, this pandemic will have no impact on the ongoing operation of BuildWoW!

SchoolBox

Nicaragua-based projects.

SchoolBox is currently on hiatus given that Covid is continuing to run rampant in Nicaragua. With safety being their number one priority, and given the current state of the economy, it is difficult to predict when operations will resume. Despite this, schools remain open and operational in the region.

Create Change

Ghana-based projects.

The Ghana government has just announced that schools will remain closed countrywide until January 2021. In the meantime, Create Change recognizes that many students in rural schools are vulnerable to not returning to school without support. They are actively developing new literacy support that remains safe during Covid times using recorded lessons, peer to peer mentoring and book distribution.

WE Canada

Kenya, Ecuador, Sri-Lanka based projects.

Unfortunately, the WE Charity will be closing its doors. We invite you to read their update here. This organization holds a special place in our heart as we built our first school with them. Although the schools they build are designed to be self-sustainable, they are selling all of their Canadian assets and creating an endowment fund to support existing projects. We wish you and your family the best during these incredibly difficult times. We'd also like to thank everyone that has supported the numerous communities we've worked with over the years. We look forward to the day where we can fully resume operations and continue to bring education to communities in need.
