2019 Word: Authenticity.

We all crave it.

No one wants to deal with a used car salesman, let alone become one. Yet almost all of us have been guilty of just that, thanks to social media. Here we share versions of ourselves that often don’t portray the genuine story of our actual lives ... and people buy it. Worse, they compare their own lives to it, allowing an opportunity for negativity to take hold and steel joy.

Another disingenuous activity we have fallen victim to is becoming self-absorbed. Inflated by our sense of achievement, titles, status, or number of followers, we share pictures, videos, and articles in a race of self promotion. We have become obsessed with ourselves. 

But what if we change that in 2019?

What if we stopped promoting ourselves, and instead, promoted the thoughts and works of others who have impacted and shaped us? What if in every moment, conversation, and interaction we were others-focused?

If we are going to “be” anything in 2019, let’s be our authentic selves. 

• Be where your feet are.
• Remember where they used to be.
• And be confident in where they are going. 

In 2019 make the biggest impact of your life by being your authentic self and being others-focused in every moment. Ask yourself constantly, in every interaction, not what you can gain, but what others can gain from engaging with you, authentically.
