Every single day I get questions about social media - everything from platforms to engagement to thought leadership on social media.
I compiled some of these great questions and my answers for you - I know you'll find some gold throughout these conversations!
Q: What social media platform is most engaging?
A: Right now I’m finding the most engaging platform to be YouTube - there’s a ton of room for organic growth as well.
Q: What are the ways to get followers on Twitter without advertising or without any other site helps?
A: I have found several things to be helpful in growing a Twitter following.
- Tweet a lot more than you think - people like positive, inspirational content. I pre-schedule a month of tweets at a time.
- Engage with people in your ideal following. Like their tweets, reply to them - it’s conversational.
- Follow the people who retweet and like the tweets from others similar to you.
Twitter is like most platforms - consistency pays off. Spend 15-20 minutes per day focusing on growth and engagement and you’ll see your following on Twitter grow without paying for ads
Q: How can I disrupt social media?
A: The definition of “disrupt” is “interrupt (an event, activity, or process) by causing a disturbance or problem”…
If you’re looking to do that, I would create a massively controversial viral post.
If you’re looking to create a new option or alternative to social media, start looking for what people are gravitating towards.
What do they want? What do they crave? How can you create a platform that provides that for them?
Q: How can I make better use of Facebook and Twitter to grow my audience if I am an artist without a pre-existent fanbase? I'm already using DeviantArt and Instagram as my main social networks.
A: Oh man…. It depends on who your artwork brings in as an audience. I would personally focus on Instagram and Facebook (to run Facebook Ads) for growing an audience.
Find the hashtags of your ideal consumer and go engage with their content!
Q: What is the essential information to include in a LinkedIn profile?
A: It’s important to fully optimize your LinkedIn bio - completely filling out every single section to improve your chances of being found!
I personally love focusing on:
- Headline
- About
- Articles
But every single area is important!
Q: How does social media scream "I'm having fun and your not"?
A: It only seems that way if you perceive it that way. Social media is often times a curation of the highlights in someone else’s life.
Instead of sitting and scrolling on social media - go build experiences and memories for your own highlight reel.
Q: Do bloggers earn handsomely?
A: Bloggers can make good money - but it totally depends on their ability to monetize….
If they’re consistent, giving value, savvy at business, it can be great! I’ve personally known bloggers who make 6–8 figures per year!
Q: How can one start a positive movement on social media?
A: Hands down, the best way to start a positive movement on social media is by building your platform.
Start with leading with your thoughts of positivity and consistently posting and engaging!
Q: How much money does an Instagram influencer with 10k followers make?
A: There isn’t a set amount of money any influencer makes for 10k followers - or any number!
While there are some who share “average price per post” - the influencers who can align themselves with brands and sponsors that serve their audience best (AND drive results) will be able to make the most money.
Q: How can social media be used effectively?
A: It totally depends! Social media can be used for building a personal platform, for fun, for building a business, driving revenue - the list goes on and on!
I recommend every single person and business builds a platform - even if they aren’t certain what to build it for yet.
Start with 1–2 platforms and focus on them until you start getting consistent traction and then expand to further platforms.
Q: What is the point of Instagram engagement groups when they don't even get you any followers?
A: The point of engagement groups on Instagram (or pods as they’re often called) is to grow your engagement, and increase your chances of hitting the Discover Page.
THEN your Instagram potentially can grow followers as a secondary benefit of engagement pods.
