2019 Reading List

Before the year is over, I am proudly crossing a goal off my list: to read a total of 24 books. So insightful to look back and realize they are a mirror reflection of my journey throughout the year, full of behavioral economics, startup basics, and a biography of Churchill (which, let's face it, deserves a category of its own). Here we are, in the order of completion, the ones that stood out the most being underlined:

  1. High Output Management, Andrew S. Grove
  2. Thinking: Fast and Slow, Daniel Kahneman
  3. Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking, Susan Cain
  4. The One Minute Manager, Ken Blanchard
  5. Nudge, Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein
  6. Zero to One, Peter Thiel
  7. E-Myth Revisited, Michael Gerber
  8. The Art of the Start, Guy Kawasaki
  9. Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, Daniel Pink
  10. Predictably Irrational, Dan Ariely
  11. The Mom Test, Rob Fitzpatrick
  12. Your Money or Your Life, Vicki Robin
  13. The Tao of Leadership, John Heider
  14. Developing the Leader within You, John C. Maxwell
  15. Dollars and Sense, Dan Ariely and Jeff Kreisler
  16. Never Split the Difference, Christopher Voss
  17. Four Steps to Epiphany, Steve Blank
  18. Purple Cow, Seth Godin
  19. Understand, Manage, and Prevent Algorithmic Bias: A Guide for Business Users and Data Scientists, Tobias Baer
  20. How to Lie with Statistics, Darrell Huff
  21. Churchill: Walking with Destiny, Andrew Roberts
  22. Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die, Chip Heath and Dan Heath
  23. Atomic Habits, James Clear
  24. Good Economics for Hard Times, Abhijit V. Banerjee and Esther Duflo
  25. (bonus) Why Nations Fail, Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson

As I am finishing up the last ones, it’s taken me straight back to college times, reviving the deep passion for economics. Quite a few things have changed since, due to both groundbreaking research and new developments in the world. Alas, more economics books in 2020! And biographies.

What are your favorites? Please share as I would love to explore.

Thanks for sharing this list, Kat! David Harvey’s “A Brief History of Neoliberalism” is a goodie I’d recommend: on political economy and a critical lens of neoliberalism and capitalism.
