2018 - The Year of BE

It seems everybody has a word for the year - one particular thing they want to be more conscious of.
And so I sat, and I thought, and I sat, and I thought.
I don't want this year to be for me.
I want this year for you.
What is my word, my wish, my want - more than anything to be reflective of 2018 as I watch that big shiny ball drop at the end of it...what do I want to be able to look back on...
BE.
A verb, really? Not an adjective...Ed people are going to think you fell off your rocker at almost 44 years of age.
I want to encourage you, inspire you, to BE remarkable, BE courageous, BE daring, BE loving, BE something, BE anything! Sometimes we sit, and we dream, and we hope, and then we wait.
For circumstance to be right, for time to be right, for finances to be right.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -H. Jackson Brown Jr.
This past year one of my most valued lessons came from people who are no longer here, great people we lost suddenly and unexpectedly (at least physically - you bet I believe). That lesson?
Don't wait. Don't choose to feel stuck in anything you are doing wherever you are doing it. Don't wait.
Today is a blessing and tomorrow, should it come, is a gift.
My first BE of this year - BE Remarkable! Build your sweat equity in your passion, continue to stay sharp in it. Be that person who everyone will remember twenty years from now as that guy or gal that they could always turn to because you knew your stuff - you were one of those people that they could count on and you did it with integrity.
How?
- Develop a hunger for self knowledge. Find others that have the knowledge you desire and find a way to serve them - and they will share. If you find yourself first in what you are doing, then you may become the one sought.
- Develop your character daily. Be humble but not meek, wise and not harmful. **EQ can help you determine your strengths and your weaknesses. Knowing your strengths will provide you the opportunity to develop them. Bring others around you whose strengths are your weaknesses. Build your network on purpose.
- Seek to better understand others. Communication happens seldomly and good communication is an even greater rarity. **DISC can help you understand others, and when you better understand others you create an opportunity to communicate more effectively.
Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words. -Roy T. Bennett
What do you want to #BE?
Anyone we meet who is remarkable will be remembered. For me in my commercial door and frame specialty, it was Mr. Pete Sandstrom. If I put in the work he supplied the knowledge or put me in the right direction to find it. That was seventeen years ago. Have you met someone whom was remarkable?
To your success,
