The 2018 World Cup winner is togetherness
For a month now, people have been swarming the biggest squares of the world, shouting for joy, from London to Moscow, to Sydney and Zagreb. Hundreds of thousands of them spontaneously flocked to the Champs-Elysées last tuesday just after sunset.
French philospher Robert Redeker wrote in a column two days ago ? The jubilation of the French reminds us that celebrating is above all a social need ?. He was spellbound to observe that during the world’s biggest sporting event ? millions of unknown people become my siblings. My heart slows down and races up in tune with their own ?. That extraordinary chemistry is the deeply universal value that is convivialité.
In this era of social media and virtual relationships, now more than ever we need to physically meet one another to share genuine moments of joy.
