There's just no substitute for the face-to-face conversations with colleagues, mentors, and clients that #SupplyChain conferences provide. But there are so many to choose from, that the first step in planning my travel schedule for the year ahead is to make a list of the #SCM events that I'd like to attend.
A couple of observations from looking at this year's list:
First, in terms of scheduling: Does anyone else think it's ironic that the SCM folks continue to schedule our conferences on top of one another, year after year? Note to conference organizers: Your participants, speakers, and sponsors are good at logistics, but we still can't be in two places at the same time. Personally, I'd love to see more organizations collaborating to host events together.
Second, in terms of geography: It looks like TN, GA, and NC are popular this year. A bit disappointing (for a guy with three little kids) that there aren't more events in Orlando. I guess we'll have to take a real vacation in order to visit the Magic Kingdom. And for folks on the west coast, well, at least there are some events in AZ and CO.
So, here's the rundown for 2018. Who else did I miss? Which ones are you going to?

6 年Just like companies once had ALL processes under one roof to connect value stream members, discuss throughput, understand cause and effect to take out waste, so too should supply chain members of products. Lean discussions never properly effect this process. Purchasing looks at price points but many times do not understand the true price of an excel price difference, many times not understanding the added costs by their decision I do not hear these points addressed and would appreciate the discussion. If a purchase agent, or a designer does not understand how to make their design come to life, how do they compare by price only?
