2018 Robbery Response Plan: Prevention, Apprehension & Recovery Thursday, October 19, 2017 - 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM ET

Overview

Because your Institution deals in cash, you're a prime targert for criminals. Unfortunately, your bank or credit union is likely to be robbed at some point. If you are lucky, the robbery will occur after business hours - when your personnel and customers are not at risk; if not, everyone at your Institution - you, your employees and your customers - could face an extremely dangerous situation.

There are effective measures that you can take to protect the assets of your Institution, and make the workplace safer for your employees and customers. The ultimate objective is to take preventive steps that thwart a robbery from occuring at the outset.

During this Webinar, we will discuss best practices for your Robbery Response Plan, including what actions your Institution should take during the various stages of the crime (e.g., Before, During, and After the Robbery). We will examine the ABCs of Security Devices. You will learn how to train your staff to detect suspicious behaviours and, ultimately, to identify a would-be robber.

We will also cover some details on how to detect counterfeit money and what are the security features of the "old" and "new" notes in circulation at this time.

Covered Topics

  • Robbery prevention methods, including: Conducting Background checks during the hiring process; ensuring your building and parking lot are well lit;
  • Examine safety procedures for opening and closing your institution (two employees present; only partially close the blinds; have bushes and shubbery well-trimmed to eliminate potential hiding places for robbers
  • Explore training exercises to prepare your staff to detect and deter would-be robbers
  • Discuss best practices for employee prevention, such as don't count money by the cash register (use a back room); remain alert when handling money (a $1 bill can be mistaken for a $20 bill if your distracted and chatting with a customer); stress the importance of employee safety - don't be a hero! Call the police or lock the doors if a robbery threat looms; comply with the robber's demands and speak slowly, remain calm, and communicate only when necessary
  • Robbery Response Plan: Actions to take Before, During, and After a Robbery
  • Identifying features of U.S. Currency, including how to detect counterfeit money. We will take an up-close look at many banknotes, and review the security features of the new design $100 note

Who Should Attend?

This webinar will benefit all staff including those who work in the back office.
