My personal guidelines for successful goal setting.
Here are the guidelines I used to set my goals for 2018. I thought they might be helpful to others. Happy New Year!! Make it count!
Goal Setting Guide 2018
“Imagine your goals not just a list of stuff you want, but who you want to be”
- Alan Smithson
Ask yourself the following questions while setting your goals:
- Who do I want to spend my time with?
- What daily activities will make me leap out of bed?
- What do I want to learn?
- Who do I want…
- to hang out with?
- to talk with?
- to collaborate with?
- to do business with?
Goal setting guidelines
- Keep them few 5-7 (unless you are an insane overachiever like me)
- Be Specific
- Be Measurable
- Be Actionable
- Be Realistic (but really REALLY ridiculous)
- Be Time Bound
- Write Them Down
- Review Them Frequently
- Share Them Selectively (or publicly on Facebook like I did)
- Have Fun!!
- Go for it!

7 年This is a great outline for goal setting and I especially agree with the S.M.A.R.T goals. I had some really major ones in 2017 like getting engaged, getting a job in tech and graduating top of my class. I was actually able to complete them all. The thing that made all the difference was reviewing my goals DAILY and asking myself " what small thing can I do today to accomplish this goal?". It helped me to have a razor sharp focus and stay consistent.

7 年There is only one goal - "The Goal". Everything else is an objective - something that your work produces which in some way advances you toward your goal. Don't confuse an objective with The Goal. Once you figure this out, it becomes increasingly clear what you should do - and what you should not! #TheThomasCatsburg
