2018 Film Workshop & "Music in Movies" Film Series

New Orleans' most prominent cultural expression is music. Music fuels every other cultural expression in the city of New Orleans. Capturing New Orleans music culture has never been more popular. The growth of film and interactive community and the tax credits provided by the State of Louisiana makes filming and presenting the culture financially feasible. The workshop's topic is capturing culture on film and how it represents communities. Successful filmmaking requires artistry, a great story, funding, and planning. Music in movies helps develop film artistry and story.

On Thursday, August 23rd, Cutting Edge Film Workshop at the New Orleans Jazz Museum will advance the understanding of what is required to be a successful documentary filmmaker. The workshop will include conversations with filmmakers outlining their selection of subject matter; their planning and funding requirement will highlight the interviews.

The “Music in Movies” film series will conclude the workshop with a film by Baton Rouge documentary filmmaker, Cyril Vetter on the music of New Orleans Jump Blues era, captured in a live concert hosted by New Orleans virtuoso “Deacon” John Moore appropriately name "Deacon John's Jump Blues."

The A legal panel covering film agreements and essential deal points will take place Friday, August 24th at the InterContinental Hotel as part of the Cutting Edge Entertainment Law Seminar (MCLE credits provided)

Other “Music in Movies” film screenings and discussions will include works by documentary filmmaker, Paul Catafago, and selections from WWOZ’s community radio station's film archives. Other films to be screened includes, a documentary on Canadian music icon, Ron Sexsmith and a documentary on how the music of Gospel Quartets transformed into early Rhythm and Blues.
