The Diversity Lie (tired)

The Diversity Lie (tired)

I'm tired of reading article after article with the lame headline and tattered theme of two (2) or three (3) percent representation.  I'm tired of contributors and those delegated as D&I responsible relying on the safety phrase "lack of pipeline" when thousands are graduating each and every year.  And most of all, I’m tired of corporate diversity officers speaking with the tone of the defeated.

I’m as committed today as I’ve ever been.  I've watched this space for more than a decade and see through the veil of false efforts.  Companies grand standing and dropping press releases yet abandoning their effort before the ink is even dry.  I've watched congressional activity lobby for more visas while ignoring academic institutions that educate the underrepresented they claim to desire - right here!

- Truth is -

I’ve reached out for two straight years to a mix of C-Suite leaders in efforts to socialize the conversation around diversity only to find most afraid to speak on camera.  I'm not at all deterred more like emboldened.  And no I’m not taking the Michael Moore route, not just yet.  I am however operating with more brevity, impact, and range going forward.  I’ll use my platform on SiriusXM to continue pushing (powerful) messages.

I’ll call on a new batch of leaders and invite them to Identity Shift to be held during Art Basel.  I’ll do this and more because I firmly believe there is no better time than now to ardently work at making progress.  I'll address each speaking engagement, starting with my VMSA video chat in January, with a tone of promise not problem.  The solutions are in clear sight.  Question is will you and your team operate "business as usual" in 2017?

I hope not.  I am most hopeful that you, your team and trusted collaboration partners step boldly into 2017. That you pursue efforts and relationships, and allocate resources that speak to Clifton "Pop" Herring's position of "it's hard but it's fair" in the book Driven From Within by Mark Vancil. Table is set and changing demographics in the country and workplace demand that we get this right.

Get it right or be erased from the playing field of competition.

Absolutely LOVE your attitude! Thank you for carrying the torch. And shame on us for expanding the trend toward H1B Visas instead of educating, training, and retraining our own for today's opportunities.
