2016 - What's the story so far?

The first half of 2016 has certainly had a number of ups and down.

People were sent into emotional turmoil, with a number of well-loved celebrity figures passing on, including David Bowie, Ronnie Corbett and Muhammad Ali.

Politically, the country was rocked to the core with the Brexit referendum, forcing everyone to question what comes next, alongside a change to our government’s leadership with the second female prime minister to lead negotiations.

But what’s been going on in the working world?

Badenoch & Clark have just released our 2016 market insight papers for half 1. The documents digs into trends around hire rates, particular focus areas, skill gaps and what we predict for the coming 6 months.

Our HR insight touches on key trends for the year so far, including the significant growth in need for professionals with skills in Compensation, Benefits and Reward. L&D also saw an increase with more than one in six roles advertised being for Training & Development Specialists.

Nationally, there has been notable growth in the junior market, bolstered by a significant rise in contract vacancies. Despite quiet pockets, the war for talent continues to rage on with an increase in salaries across the South, possibly down to candidates negotiating better rates amongst a ‘skill-short’ market.

The Midlands also saw a positive turn, with packages improving to including car allowances, a wider range of benefits and a strong focus on pensions.

We also delve into the hot topic on everyone’s lips - what comes next for  the HR market following the Brexit vote…
