2017 RWDI Weather Courses in Calgary

RWDI is teaching another introductory and advanced weather course in downtown Calgary, January 16-18, 2017. The first two days make up the introductory course and all three days together make up the advanced course. The course will guide you through the background and application of meteorological tools and internet resources. The introductory section will strengthen your meteorological background, help communicate with professional meteorologists and conduct your own briefings. The advanced day will give you tools and confidence to assess a weather situation more independently. It is aimed at professionals who depend on weather and amateurs who spend a lot of time in the outdoors. The course is taught by a professionally registered and practicing meteorologist. Introductory Weather Course January 16 and 17, 2017; Calgary

This introductory level course will guide you through the background and application of freely available internet resources. From simple observations via satellites to weather model output. The course addresses the needs of most professionals working with weather and there was particularly good feedback from Avalanche Control Professionals, Snow Safety Teams, Media, Ski Patrol, Municipal Emergency Managers, Pilots, Dispatchers and Professional Engineers. The cost of this course includes all materials needed.

At the end of the course, students will

  • have a toolbox of resources to access current weather information (observations, forecasts, discussions etc.)
  • be able to interpret weather and its changes in the outdoors.
  • be able to read and interpret satellite and radar imagery
  • be able to read professionally prepared weather charts.
  • be able to interpret and tailor those forecasts to a particular spot and application (including aviation products).
  • be able to go through a step by step process that leads to a weather analysis and interpretation of professionally prepared forecasts

Advanced Weather Course January 16-18, 2017

The advanced course starts with the introductory course as outlined above. On the third day students will then learn about weather models and apply them in an operational setting. The cost of this course (all three days) includes all materials needed.

At the end of the course, students will

  • have all the tools learned from the introductory course as listed above.
  • be able to distinguish output from different weather models and their application.

be able to apply different weather model output to their specific application in an operational setting to a future scenario.
