Sharing my New Year message to my team on learning and growing.

On my annual family holiday, as luck would have it, I twisted my ankle and was stuck in my hotel for the holidays. What a way to start the break, right? But I took the opportunity while the family was out and about to reflect on the year that was and contemplate the future ahead.

How far we’ve come together in our ginormous mission to be the bright spark of the Telco industry. No need to state the peaks and valleys here, you were there as it happened. And besides, we’ll regroup soon enough to review and acknowledge  them together.

Instead, I would like to talk to you about personal growth – yours, as well as mine. What we learnt from our experiences last year must have changed us. On the whole, 2015 was about defining the kind of company we want to become. We had to dig deep within ourselves to figure out what we care about, what makes us happy, and how we can make work more meaningful by making our consumers the center of our world and aspiring to a greater purpose.

It was only when we immersed ourselves into execution that it became apparent how much we had to stretch in constantly doing something new. I grew immensely from the experience and I’m sure you did too. As I sometimes tell our newbies, there is no place better than P1 in this stage of our journey to bloom and to make your mark.

You know as well as I that doing anything worthwhile is never easy. There were many challenges and yet more lies ahead. There will be obstacles, problems and all manner of delays. It is up to you and me to beat them down one at a time.

Those who had made their marks, Steve Jobs, Jack Ma, Elon Musk – no matter what life threw at them, they kept true to their values and never gave up on their dreams. And in so doing, they changed the world. Who is to say that we cannot do the same as long as we give it our all and never give up.

The idea of doing something new and uncharted fills me with energy and sometimes nerves. Either or, they both drive me forward. No one knows whether we will be an instant hit when we make our debut as a one-of-a-kind mobile player, but we must be the first to believe in ourselves and stay on course. Anyway, not knowing everything is what makes life an adventure and I’m very happy that we’re on one together right now. 

We’ve also grown into a better team - more engaged, more creative and innovative, more disciplined, hardier and more energized.  The aim must be to get better and better, always.
